Cornisas Del Corazon

CORNISAS DEL CORAZON
(Jorge Taboada – Maria Volonté)

Chabón con pinta, todo prolijo
con plazo fijo, moto y bulín…
Según las chicas, un atractivo
ejecutivo de maletín.
Recién cumplidos los veintiocho,
rulos morochos sobre la sien…
según los puntos, gran candidato
para que un gato lo arañe bien.

Cruzó la calle y estaba ella
como una estrella que lo cegó:
con mucho oficio meneó la cola
y al darle bola lo engatusó.
Colgó a la novia por esa mina
que en una esquina lo abarajó:
gata mimosa que se desliza
por las cornisas del corazón….

Se vino un día con los pasajes
“Vamos de viaje… Roma y París!”…
meta tarjeta, champán del bueno.
metejón pleno dulce y feliz!…
Fueron semanas a puro sueño:
eran los dueños…. “monsieur y madame”…
se despertaron cuando el cajero
con saldo cero, no quiso más!…

La mina estaba tan de la nuca
con su peluca de cotillón.
que esa mañana, juntito al Sena,
le hizo una escena de culebrón:
“Flaquito lindo…”-dijo la gata-
“París me mata… me quedo acá!!!”…

English Version: (Edges of the Heart)

Summary:
In this tale of modern love, a young man in Buenos Aires swoons before the seductions of a worldly woman of the night (in Argentine slang “gato,” meaning “cat”). He abandons everything – his girlfriend, his job – to take the woman on a romantic escapade through Europe. In Paris they live like royalty running up tabs and drinking champagne. But when the money runs out, the woman sends the young man back to Buenos Aires alone, poorer, wiser, and “more doubled over and lame than the Hunchback of Notre Dame.”

LYRICS:
Young man, handsome, with the aura of success
checkbook, motorcycle and flashy pad
According to the girls, an attractive catch
With his executive airs and briefcase to match
Recently turned twenty-eight
Brown curls hanging down
A good candidate, they said, at that
To get scratched by a cat

He crossed the street when he saw her
A shimmering star that left him blind
Swaying her hips, which she did well
She returned his stare and cast her spell
He dumped his girlfriend
for that slinky woman who took his arm
tender cat who plays her part
along the edges of the heart

Waving tickets, he greeted her one day
“Let’s escape to Paris and Rome!”
Credit cards to the limit! Fine champagne!
A wild affair, happy and insane
They were dream-like weeks
Like royalty they lived – “Monsieur y Madame”
But the cash machine gave their game the lie
When it came up empty and dry

The girl, in her ridiculous wig,
went out of her mind
that morning on the quai
she had her say
“You’re a cute kid,” said the cat
“But I love Paris, so I’m staying right here!”
The boy went home alone, more doubled over and lame
than the Hunchback of Notre Dame

Luxury yachts waving Greek flags
The cat cavorts in the sun
The guy with the motorcycle, well, he tumbled hard
when he crossed paths with a leopard
They say that man, and it seems to be true,
Twice makes the same mistake
for a cat he was left in ruin
and by a cat he was made to pay
