María Volonté performed at the Helsinki Festival on August 24 and brought the audience to its feet. With a varied repertory, María won over the demanding Helsinki audience with songs such as “María de Buenos Aires” by Astor Piazzolla and an original arrangement of the classic tango “Nostalgias.”

The Finnish festival is one of the most prestigious events on the European cultural calendar. This year’s line-up featured Germany’s Pina Bausch, Peru’s Susana Baca, Sweden’s Eva Dahlgren, and the Saharan world music group Tinariwen, winners of the World Music Award 2005.

María performed with the singer Alfredo Piro. The night opened with a performance by the tango fusion group Tangoloco (www.tangoloco.com.ar)
